Tomorrow Saint Mungo's is hosting a dinner, both to raise money for the hospital and to thank those who have made significant donations during their summer fund raising events.

As usual, as it has for years, the Malfoy family is one of those contributors. Every year we donate a small fortune and every year we get invited to these dinners and by invited I mean you have to pay for a plate. It's worth it though, even if it means having to wear a suit and sit through two hours of speeches and presentations.

My cousin's fifteenth birthday is today. Happy Birthday, Cady. I hope you had a good time in Diagon Alley with all your friends. Of course I also hope you got some amazing gifts. Was there anything noteworthy?

I intended to spend the evening purging my room of things I no longer need or use but like usual it didn't take me long to get distracted.

Behind my wardrobe I found a copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, still marked from when my mother used to read it to me before bed about a decade ago. I've never actually read it myself but I remember all the stories - Babbity Rabbity, the Three Brothers, The Fountain of Fair Fortune - all of them except for one:

The Warlock's Hairy Heart.

Not once did my mother ever read this particular story to me and after doing so this evening I can both understand why and regret that she didn't. This story, all the stories in this book, are far more complex than I ever remember them being.

It seems the heart is a dangerous thing! Without a mind to control the heart it went feral but the Warlock removed it to keep his mind from falling prey to its influence. I wonder if taking it out really changed the way his life ended.

Something about the concept of a public, mandatory journal project worries me. One was sent to every student attending Hogwarts? Even the first years? I have a feeling I'm going to be doing a lot of skimming through the mire of scribbles that make up the thoughts and concerns of eleven-year-olds away from home for the very first time. A small price to pay for inter house unity and general togetherness?

I'm not entirely sure how keeping a diary is supposed to blur the lines between houses but I'll trust the administration has put some thought into all of this before spending potentially thousands of galleons. And it might even be entertaining.

Speaking of unity: HUP. I think I'm going to submit my name for consideration. It's a concept I believe our school could benefit from. House rivalries go back to the foundation of the school but they definitely haven't always been friendly. Except for Hufflepuff. Let's admit it, we're just involving them so their feelings won't get hurt, right? Have they ever done anything to cause a rift of any kind?
